Growing Up to Me

Young and cool

Chilling near my pool

Uncomfortable with the touch

Feeling like I’m revealing too much

Scared to understand

The sweat on my hands

Fearing the looks at me

Want to get a new body

A boy

Want to be one

That’s what I am

Stuck in the scam

That my world put me in

I am a boy

Allowed to be a boy

Just didn’t know it yet

Now

I’m living

Facing bigotry

Hating me

The people are

My peers

My customers

My coworkers

Strangers

Want to strangle

Everything I am

“You chose this!”

They all say it

And I know it

But better to grow up

Be me

Than die a black hole
