Growing into my skin

I used to hate my skin,

the darkness of it,

the ugliness is what i called it,

it digusted me,

how can a person always look dirty,

I thought,

how could god make me this ugly,

its my skin that defined me,

and it defines me as ugly,

And as I grew,

my skin had started to change,

it was still the same shade,

yet it felt beautiful,

it was no longer ugly,

it empoowered me,

my skin was what defined me,

and it defined me as beautiful,
