Growing out of Anxious Thoughts
Irrational fears used to control my life
They used to fill inside my head
My head would trap those fears inside
Every day I would fear the smallest of things
Very specific fears
And they happened one after the other
I was afraid of throwing up
Then I conquered that
I was afraid of passing out
Then I conquered that
I was afraid of choking on food
One would end and the next one would begin
I feared these things like they were most definitely going to happen to me
I feared these things like it was the end of the world
I was afraid of dying
I was afraid of getting sick
And these are normal things to fear and not like
But it consumed the majority of my day
Every day
One day I realized that I didn’t have to live my life in fear
That was the turning point for me
That was the point at which I could finally see
I finally saw how silly I had been
I finally realized that it was nothing more than just anxiety weaving its way in
Anxiety is a tricky thing
But once you can pick out the anxious thoughts in your head
Once you are able to label them
That’s when you know that you’ve come a long way
That’s when you know that your point of view has changed
I was finally able to wrap my mind around things
I was able to see things clearer
My mind had finally changed
And so had my perspective on the world
I was no longer a little kid
I had grown
