Growing Pains

Sometime in mid-July I sat on my

Floor, practicing for the cruel SAT

When a shuddering chill came over me.

As Taylor sang Never Grow Up, I sighed.

To our childhood too soon we say goodbye.

Consumed with nostalgia of catching bees,

Bike racing, and climbing crab apple trees,

“I want to return to those times!” I cried.

But when I study myself in the mirror

I am proud of who I see. Adulthood

Is knocking and I’m peeking through the peep

Hole, curious, but wary, of what could

Be there, but I won’t dwell on any fears

For true to myself I know I will keep.
