Growing Pains

I grew through my pains,

Though I wasn't to blame.

Divorce, poverty, hunger.

My mind changed the day I started-

To understand the world is not rainbows and sunshine,

It's pain and grey while crying in the rain.

Having a job at age 14,

Given to the world of struggle-

My mind changed through the growing pains.

I understand now: "Stay young forever"

I see why adults drink themselves under the weather.

I changed when the pain inside-

Showed out.

When nights were spent crying-

Without a sound.

I grew through my pains- and continue

Growing through demons,

I've learned lessons to change me.
