Growing Seed

Growing seed, wide-eyed and naive

The world is so shiny and so clean

You hear the linger of your families laughter

Relish the dinner set in front of you

Worry at night if that boy will ask you to prom?

Worry in the morning, will you get into college?

Everything is in the palm of your hand

Your hands steady with determination

Just for you to drop everything from a slight twitch

The world begins to shatter

You hear the linger of your family fighting

Relish the break you receive between your two jobs

Worry at night how to put dinner on the table

Worry in the morning how to pay your college debt

When you are planted you have protection

The dirt cushions you from the outside obstacles

You are safe from the pain the outside brings

The world is your best friend

When you’re a growing seed you suffer

There is no protection from your breakthrough

You have begun to suffer and drown by the rainstorm

But the storm always ends and it will come again

The storms will only enhance your growth
