growing up is strange

growing up is strange

when you leave to go off to college.

you think you have it down,

that you can do it on your own.

you think it won't really change,

that you have infinite knowledge.

then soon you miss your hometown,

and suddenly you're thrown.

growing up is strange.

your parents aren't by your side,

it's you and you alone.

soon homework piles up.

you wish you could exchange

your loneliness, all teary-eyed,

for laughter on the phone

from your favorite grown-up.

growing up is strange.

you come home for the break

to a family that is warm,

where the old feels new.

but again and again comes change.

i know it will make your heart ache,

but know that in that dorm

your family is with you.

growing up is strange.
