Growing Time

Come with me

We must be quiet

As we sneak

Past Father Time

Catch him while he’s sleeping

Under the great oak

And slip into his field

Plots are marked out

For everyone and everything

Either flourishing or withering

As time ticks on

I find our plot

Amongst the others

‘Tis a dying square

Of twisted metal

Seeming to resemble

Persistence of Memory

The tree’s hands move slowly

Each turn of the clock’s gears

Seeming a step closer

To death

I cry out in anguish

Despairing the plot

Of our dying relationship

Ticking its last

Quick! Before it’s too late

I must save our relationship

Before its time passes on

Dig a hole

Plant a watch

The beginning of time

Pray it takes root

And water it well

Oil and water combining

The dirt crumbles

As up sprouts a tree

Glistening in the sunlight

As it twists upward

Its branches are hands

Counting off seconds

As they tick by on its trunk

A pendulum swaying within

Success! All hope isn’t lost!

With a grin and shaking hands

I repeat this process

Constantly planting trees

Adding time to our plot

And prolonging our relationship

To eternity
