A Grown up Child

Mom always said that she won't be here forever. To be controlling of  my life like a system of pulleys and levers. To make sure that I stay out of trouble and my head is always clever. When I'm down and in the dumps she can't always make it better. She was honest, and told me to make her a promise. When I'm out there on my own I can't act like I'm the dumbest. How ironic. It came quicker then it seemed although she's here, she's at a distance that can't be followed down stream. But she's here when i'm doing wrong, she keeps me right, i'm in a dorm with my roommate and I call her every night. Yes i'm a mamas boy. I'm not ashamed to admit it. If they give you alcohol out is the way that you spit it. If they tell you to hit the blunt you deny and tell them to quit it. Because you only get one life and one opportunity to live it. So I'm here. I love my mother very dear. She came in clutch with a birthday card and twenty dollars every year. All the love and advice she used to put up in my ears, is better than any college knowledge they could give me there. So now I smile. Because i'll be gone off to college in a while. But I know i'll survive with a box of fruit snacks and my mother on speed dial.
