Growth
In the ground a seed was planted
As my journey began.
A leaf on a branch full of leaves;
A branch on a tree full of branches.
My journey is different from all others.
On a branch that is constantly shaken by the wind,
I grew up with bittering from my parents.
Not one day did I not hear or feel that wind.
With three other leaves living on this branch,
I was not alone to experience the trauma of a broken home.
Other branches on the tree began to lose their leaves,
But my branch on the tree started to grow.
It distanced itself far from the tree
And the leaves stayed on for the ride.
Even though it was a broken branch,
The leaves could not divide.
The roots of my family started off strong and thick
But grew thin and thin.
I started out as a lone caterpillar
Even with my three siblings roaming around the nest.
The steams and petals on the flower protected us
From the rain and wind
But some how I still found myself dandling on the edge of a petal.
The wind carried my mind to places I couldn’t imagine.
New experiences, new ideas brought maturity.
Even with the little shelter from the steam and petals,
I was able to eat away at all the things that I hoped would bring me nourishment.
I took a nibble of: friendships, relationships, books, the streets, music, and more.
This lone caterpillar is becoming more educated and versed in life;
While the steams and petals still try to it back.
