Growth

Ignorance really is bliss.

Isn't that what they say?

But you work and you learn

Until that ignorance goes away.

I thought my family was perfect -

Or at least not the biggest mess -

But one crisp March day

Will make me think that even less.

My brother took some pills

That I didn't recognize.

Ambulance sirens pervade the air

As I wipe furiously at my eyes.

That day I realized the world is sad

And people play a part.

I had to wake up and be there

For a brother with a troubled heart.

It's difficult to realize

That life isn't what it seems.

The complications of an imperfect world

Broke me at the seams.

But I pushed through and stood my ground

While everything fell apart.

Without the struggles of a broken home

I would be stuck with a broken heart

I grew and grew and grew

Until I could grow no more;

My body stayed at 5'2"

But my spirit could weather a storm.

Ups and downs are facts of life,

But don't let them get to you.

You are stronger than you think,

And you can fight through.
