Growth
Bruises bloomed beneath his touches
He caressed them and said
Because I love you.
The words he spoke
Sharp, jagged things
Twisted
Like daggers in my soul.
He whispered in my ear,
Because I love you.
I was a melancholy flower
Nourished by anger and meanness
Under the guise of love.
But I grew to learn
that words mean nothing
when the actions don't match.
So when the courage filled my bones,
And my soul sang
A yearning song begging for peace,
I left.
The wind carried me
to my present.
Blush blooms on my cheeks beneath his kisses
Because I love you, he says
His words,
spontaneous sonnets dedicated to me,
Send my heart a-fluttering with joy.
Because I love you, he proclaims.
I hug him and don't let go for an eternity
Why? He asks.
Because I love you, I reply.
I soak in the feeling of true love
As warm as the sun
And 10x sweeter,
And I grow.
