Growth moves in a forward motion

I think the

Moment

I knew I was older was when

I laid in a backyard

under the stars

drunk on wine, laughter,

Friendship

spinning while sitting still

in the cold, green grass

Surrounded by people who

were not my family

but were becoming a part of

the next chapter in my life.

I was becoming something new

growing and changing and thinking

about things that did not used to matter

but now made all the difference.

I was excited but scared

realizing that this was not a journey

parents or siblings

joined in on.

The growing,

Changing,

was mine to do now

and while I can go back for help

I can not go back to who I was

before that night

Spinning

Smiling

Laughing

in the cold, green grass

Drunk on what there is to come.
