Guardian

It was something slower, calm,
spine-tingling head-to-toe excitement,
like the blistering steam of a geyser’s breath,
or ice cold mist of a waterfall.

It's the sight that makes you quiver in awe.
It's the touch that makes you shiver and gasp.
It's the whisperings of bedtime stories,
of pirates, ghosts and fairies.

You stand there in the presence of this giant.

You feel alone, afraid.
Exposed to the cold, one feels as fragile as a newborn babe.
The voice of dreams brings joy, sadness, and terror.

And you feel familiar, at ease.
It's as if you always knew,
the giant had always been there,
with you, upon you, within you and around you.

And even though you feel afraid,
you wouldn't trade this feeling for the world.
Because no person has ever known you like the giant does.
This guardian of dreams, of tears, of life, and love.
