The Guardian
On that night, I knew you
I knew your story and felt your fear
I knew you resisted letting me in
I knew you didn't want to need me
I knew you needed me
So I came to protect you
From your memories and bad dreams
I knew your breath, your body
I tried to draw your fear into me
I tried to give you my calm
I felt your fears wake you before you awoke
I breathed peace into your shoulder
I held tight to your arms
I ran my fingers over your head
And stood vigil to the night while you slept
I couldn't answer your questions
But I held you, fiercely
I knew you didn't want me
I knew you needed me
So I was there.
