Guardian Angel

Pale hair and eyes,

Cherubic lips,

With a tilt of her head

And a flicker of light

Behind the windows

To her mind.

She stands there,

Still as a stone

A doll encased in glass.

Yet she shivers once,

Quick and then gone,

Like the hands of time.

Winter winds

Bite through her skin

And set her core ablaze.

A gasp she releases

Of delight as she grabs

The first snowflake of dawn.

Her fingers close,

Delicate yet firm,

Around the frozen tear.

Her eyes, they fluttered

And curtains she closed

As she remembered

Of home sweet home

For but a second

Before the memories melt

Away as she looks

To the sky and that’s when I

Saw wings.
