Guess who I am

was followed around the store, having more than enough money to pay for the 4 items I came for

I was stared at when I walked in with braids like it’s something exotic

I was fired because I wasn’t  the right color. And people like me couldn’t be trusted

I was told that I should be happy to get these opportunities because I wouldn’t get them often

I was told that I wasn’t smart enough for  the scholarship

I was told that I’m too sensitive and I should have tougher skin when dealing with issues of the skin

I was told that the genocide of my people was years ago and I should get over it

I was told that our people should always be tough and we shouldn’t have mental health issues.

I was told that I wouldn’t make it in the sports industry unless I know a guy to help me up.

If you don’t know by now

I’m a girl

Oh and I’m also black.
