Guiding Star
Sometimes I lie awake at night
pondering all of the things that could have been
hoping for some to return.
Sometimes I sit in my chair in spite
of the cold, sharp splinters piercing my skin
wishing for someone's concern.
Sometimes I am reminded of light
penetrating my veil of sin
while the bud of my youth starts to turn.
All these dark and dismal thoughts
have made me think that maybe I ought to start over new.
Though I am brutally aware,
from my toes to my hair
that I could never live without you.
You keep me awake at night
you tint everything in sight.
No matter how hard the journey, no matter how far,
I know that you will be
my guiding star.
