 “ Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night ”

written by Dylan Thomas and “ Annabel Lee ” written by Edgar Allen Poe. The themes of both

poems are similar because they both have something to do with death as well as love. The

poem “ Annabel Lee ” it shows the theme of love by talking about a long lost love between the

speaker and the love of his life many years ago. In the fourth stanza the speaker sates that the

angles weren’t happy with his love life by witting, “ The angels, not half so happy in heaven,

went envying her and me ”. This quote by the speaker in foreshadowing that something bad

will happen to their love. The speaker goes into theme of death by witting, “ That the wind

came out of the cloud by night, chilling and killing my Annabel Lee. ” The speaker state that

since the angels were mad with his love, they killed his Annabel Lee. The poem “ Do Not Go

Gentle Into That Good Night ” shares the theme of death. The poet writes “ Rage, rage against 

the dying light ”
