Haiku

Flashback. Flashback to First Grade,

Haiku poems were taught to me.

I did not like the structure and simplicity.

Forward. Forward to 4th grade.

I heard my first eminem song.

Boy, was it a definite upgrade.

Hearing the repetition, wordplay, and rhyme

Hearing every word just seeming on time.

The words clicked together like a chain

Forward. Forward to 7th grade

I wrote my first poem.

It seemed like it was finished, but it was far from done

Forward. Forward to 9th grade

I attended my first poetry slam.

Hearing the words roll of their tongue

I felt I was a child at disneyland

Now. Now going into 10th grade,

Poetry has been in my life for nearly a decade.

One day

I hope to leave audiences in dismay.
