Hairs of Wisdom
The greatest talent of mine, are my grey hairs. As early as I could enunciate my ABC’s, my hair started going grey. It traveled from the depths of the aged and wise and planted itself in the straight, black, strands of my head. Little did I know, the gradual greying of my hair would be a blessing, even though it felt like a plague.
I was bullied, laughed at, and questioned about my greying hair. Many believed that I had anxiety issues. Others assumed that I had a pre-existing condition which stemmed from the size of my husky pants. I gained names such as ‘old man’, ‘grandpa’, and ‘ancestor’. I assume those names were in good faith, but as a boy that did not even realize what grey hairs signified, I was trenched. I have always been on the heavier side and I have always been picked on, but the concept of bullying due to my grey hairs weighed on my morale.
Ironically enough, the color of purity, lead me to understand that the world is not so pure. The white pigmentation did not serve as a basis to stand out or to be odd. It served as an inspiration to obtain talent. The talent that nurtured me to understand that others share different opinions. At a young age, I began to notice that the world is sometimes cruel. As implied by those who bullied me, my grey hairs made me older, little did they know, older in wisdom.
