Halflight
I like that you allow me to be embarrassing around you,
to act like a child who just wants to break through.
You don’t question my feelings or say, “I’ll sue you” -
you just admire and watch how I try to construe.
In my life, you act as the glue pulling pieces in view -
the ones torn apart by those careless and cruel.
You brighten the colors and bring back the hue, though I still wonder: how can it possibly be true?
I love how you gave me a new world view
that haunts me at night and keeps me subdued.
You honestly are like sunshine passing through,
allowing me to start something brand-new.
You make me believe that I don’t need to bruise,
despite how it hurts, just learning to lose.
The paper-thin slices were once introduced,
but I’ll leave them behind on a path not to choose.
The heat I once called my silent excuse
has melted away in the light that is you.
I’m sorry I never quite knew how to get through.
But I like that you’re still down for that homemade brew -
a quiet reminder that not all ends mean the best of us can’t still shine through.
