hamilton

for some reason

i got to thinking

i wanted to write a poem about something that would change the world

i wanted to write about something that would make me look amazing

i listened to hamilton two years ago

thought: wow! i’m gonna do that.

not die, make a musical.

i wrote one song

and then i trashed it because it sounded like “aaron burr, sir.”

good song, not hate,

but do you think i can just make my song sound the same?

i got to writing

i’ve written so many poems recently i’m surprised my hands haven’t fallen off

i just sometimes laugh because i remember

that i started without a flow

only rhymes and in iambic pentameter

as if i knew what iambic pentameter

could only write verses of songs

not choruses

the key change was dramatic.

j.g.

love's gonna get you killed, but pride's gonna be the death of you.
