That Hand

Belittled, Unappredciated and treated like dirt Not seen for our talent, beauty and worth Like dogs we were treated and niggas we were called Even though the same God created us all Our blood had to be shed From being lynched, whipped and just down right abused There is however one thing we could not lose Even though they tried their hardest to make sure we didnt succeed We fought hard to get what we need But do we remeber and appreciate what our ancestors went through? Or are we sliding back to slavery times and letting the man rule? Are we giving them back that same hand that beat our great grandparents That same hand that made the ropes to lynch us That same hand that made white only pies That same hand that deprived us of an education for so many years Are we giving them back that same tainted hand? That same hand connected to same man that made us suffer for years That hand needs to be broken, shattered to pieces, and burnt We need to sit back and thank our ancestors and God for all the things we have learned.

I wrote this poem in my African American history class for a project and fell in love with it. It is not aimed to offend or hurt anyone. I just wrote to because I thought about how some of the same things that whites have done to our ancestors we are now doing to each other and if thats the case we are giving them the right to do it to use again. We have evolved too much to go back to the same struggle. I hope everyone that reads this enjoys it and understands my message. Happy reading!
