The Hand of Gold
The knives of yesterday claw and scratch, demanding to pierce the soul
Fighting and pleading, meet your match, as your body turns back to coal
The darkness that’s built up inside
You’ve tried and tried to hid
These things we cannot change, we’ve tried to cover up
Our past mistakes full of shame, cowarding like a pup
We fear the opinions of others
Hiding by our mothers
As the world demands we suffer
And alas, there is no buffer
The teeth of all our demons slowly settle in
Constantly reminding us, the pain of all our sins
The heavy hand leaves bruises
As your person finally looses
With the clang of a fallen warrior
You then become a quarrier
Digging deeper towards the core
Feeling you’ve lost the war
The weight of worlds on your shoulders
The enemy becomes the holder
Slowly you drift away
Into the vastness of the grey
The hand that creates gold
Has now strengthened his hold
Like a cloud in the dreary sky
You begin to cry
The hand has crushed who you are
The darkness seeps from its jar
Your world is consumed by fire
Your situation becomes dire
You loose your footing and fall down
As the golden hand makes you drown
Everything becomes nothing; you’re hopes, your dreams, your cares
All become a side effect of the hands wiry affairs
As everything that makes you, you slowly disappears
You have become a know one, your happy is but a smear
You’re tangled in a web that the hand has spun so neat
The gold has blinded you to all the good, as you fall closer to the heat
This is the bottom now, a place I don’t want to be
The green turns to black, it wilts away the tree
You don’t want to go on
The final blade has been drawn
The golden hand finally wins
I feel the knife across my skin
All my sorrows fade to black
This is it. No turning back
