Hand in Hand

My palms tingle, And for a split second I can feel my heart in the palm of my hand I’m uncomfortable And, quite honestly More scared than I should be Only for a split second Then she moves her hand Off of her leg and onto my chest Reminding me where my heart belongs Not quite in my chest Somewhere in between In the lingering looks and interlocked fingers and Her crooked smile It throws me sideways Straightening out the rest of the world Her bright eyes Prisms for those lucky enough To make her laugh out loud And I know I’m in trouble Because I can feel myself falling Head over heels over head over heels But I don’t want to stop I want to sing to her Loudly and proudly I want her to hold my hand Even when I’m driving I want to dance with her To hold her close But more than all of that I want her to know that she She is special She is valued She is unique She is strong When she asks What’s on your mind And I say “nothing” It’s the only lie I’ve ever told her Because when I say nothing I mean everything
