White signs in red writing won’t change the world,
Angry threats and harsh words hurled,
No rushing mob with guns in hand,
No fists waved high nor rocks thrown in demand,
Not violence nor pressure can win the worlds eye
But a group of people giving quiet testimony,
hand in hand, side by side.

Can a black hand in a white’s change one’s mind,
Toward race, about color,
Will people still be blind?
A speech and a dream will be told of a time,
When together they’ll stand
Hand in hand, side by side

“One day”, He’ll say,
“My children and thine,
will live under one nation,
All free, under God”
And His words, though small to those who won’t understand
Will one day end the prejudice of race in this land,
So that one day they’ll walk, all tears then dried,
One people as they should be,
hand in hand, side by side.
