Hand-me-down

The dark crimson shines in the void

The inky black having been its prisoner for over a decade

Its color a sharp contrast from my mother’s fair shade

It’s thrusted my way

“You cannot avoid

the trickle of time

the flap of wings as years fly away”

It whispers melodious like a chime

“Get a taste and you will want to stay”

So I accept

It wraps around me with effect

And becomes my new skin

“How fun it’s been”

says it to my mother,

“but now I must move on to another”

In awe I see

It used to fit her but now it fits me
