The Hands of the Accordion Man
I could never truly comprehend.
Nowhere in my mind could I understand.
How you made her skin cry each red tear.
I don't know who to blame. You or your beer?
You didn't realize, confident man.
That this was my mother you clenched in your hand.
Disbelief in my young mind that what you used to sin
Was also used to play well the accordion.
My heart desired so much to protect her.
Then fear whispered I'm only a toddler.
Mommy, I'm sorry I had no key to your cage.
Mommy, I'm sorry I lacked of my courage.
He's left along this life things that remind
Of the slaughtered hearts he left behind.
Oh dad, you"ve changed the way we live.
But time has evolved; now I can forgive.
With you, my mom suffered; she died.
Without you, she has slowly revived.
I'm glad your wife now never feels a sting from your hand.
I'm glad she only feels your love, accordion man.
