Hands are for holding

CC BY
54 bones 54 joints 10 knuckles Two hands. Posable thumbs Wiggleable fingers My human hands are a gift of my species But what are my hands for? At school, they curl to write on the page To take my notes They extend to type my assignments My hands are for holding my pencil At home, they grip my book To point at the page They stretch to put it back on the shelf My hands are for holding books When I'm happy, they wiggle and shake To wave through the air They tap my lip My hands are for holding happiness My hands are rough and scarred Dots of engraved blood on them But they've been cleaned since I don't worry about that anymore My hands are for holding My siblings, my memories, my body They are a blessing from the Universe And I intend to use them.
