Hands Up, On Their Knees

We’re afforded the same rights

But somehow we’re not treated the same

While the fair are peacefully deescalated

The darker ones are brutally slain

The ones put in place to protect

Repeatedly abuse their power

How much longer must we to tolerate this?

Another minute, another hour?

Every year we all celebrate our freedom

But are we really free?

Could the parents of Tamir, Travon, and Michael celebrate with glee?

Could the good blue men do their job in peace?

No longer must we continue to turn a blind eye to the injustices force fed to us all

If this continues, we’ll see each other fall

We must lift one another, with kind words and peace

But not forget the ones who’ve perished, hands up, on their knees
