Happier Times

Can I just hit rewind?

I want go back to happier times.
Where no one could stop you with a:
"Because, I say so."
Where you kept pushing the limit until
It finally broke.
Where you were valued for how you acted,
And how you spoke;
Not how an audition went,
Or how your grades were,
Not on your face,
Your clothes,
Your hair.

I want to hit rewind and go back,
Because then I wasn't judged.
I wasn't looked at and deemed
Not pretty enough,
Or too thin.
I was seen as I was,
For who I was
And I miss that.

I want to go back to simpler times,
Where if you wanted something you would go and get it
And the sky was the limit.
Not how much money you had,
Or the people you knew.

I want to go back,
Because now I feel worthless.
I feel like the last kid to be picked for the team,
Being tossed around until finally
Someone takes pity and says:
"FINE WE'LL TAKE THEM",
Because they're sick of seeing me
Get trampled under words and attitudes
That maybe I didn't deserve.

I want to go back to a time where I felt like a success.
Where I was on cloud nine, I was so proud,
And my mom and dad stood next to me--
Beaming with pride,
Not knowing that their little girls next dream would split her heart in two.

I want to go back,
Because now isn't worth it.

I want to go back, because
I know I could do it.
If I just worked a little harder,
Trained a little harder,
Tried a little harder.

I want to go back because I can't stand today;
Feeling like every fiber of my being is being stripped away
By the people who surpass me one by one,
Because they have the means to make it so.

I want to go back so I can live for today,
But I won't go back;
Because I have to live through today,
And if I do that then I can finally say:

I won't go back.

Because,

I

Am

Okay.
