Happily Ever After?

He's perfect for me.

Or so I thought.

Yet again,

I have allowed another hazel-eyed heartthrob

to be the source of my contentment.

Every song,

every poem,

every thought,

every dream

was him.

Until I came to the realization.

He doesn't feel the same for me.

Like with every other hazel-eyed heartthrob,

I was living in a fairytale.

He was my prince in shining armor

and I was the damsel.

But unlike other fairy tales,

he didn't save me from the fiery dragon.

He saved me from my own mind.

Every time a boy melts my heart,

the frigid ice box of reality freezes my fantasies,

I realize

that there is no happy ending.

Something comes over me

and I relearn the truth:

In my fairy tales, I never get a happily ever after.
