Happiness is War

I understand why those that are happy do not fall in love with those that are sad,

and why the sad seem to fall in love with each other.

A sad person would never want someone so joyously happy to be there for them while they tried to learn how to be happy.

Because getting better is not an elevator.

It's a rollercoaster.

A lot of times you’re headed up.

But most of the time you're falling

and ending up where you started

and rising higher than you ever thought before.

There’s a lot of crying invested in being happy,

and a lot of learning how to stop hating yourself for falling back into old ways,

and instead forgiving yourself for not realizing that's how happiness worked in the first place.

I wouldn't want someone who already triumphed and won that battle to witness it for a second time.

It's rude to send a soldier to war after they finally make it home.

Happiness is war.

Because you are safest not being happy.

Because nothing can hurt what is already dead.

And everyone seems to want to kill what is finally alive.

It's safe to know that sadness not only takes the gun from their hands, but also puts it in yours.

Being happy

is giving everyone a gun and telling them to aim at you.

Because once you're happy

is when you actually have something to lose.

Something to die for.
