happy face
happy face
by: annaka martin
she looks in the mirror
but doesn't smile
she sees to much of the truth
to look a while
she sees a broken heart
a soul torn apart
eyes filled with sorrow
and no hope for tomorrow.
she looks in the mirror
and sees things that aren't there
like the scares of her past
and broken bones trying to heal with casts
she sees her chest as a welcome mat
were visitors have trampled over with no sign of regret or remorse.
she sees what others have done
saying she's to much of this or not enough that to ever be someone
she sees a scattered window of her thoughts
far too many pieces to ever share
then again why would she
no one seems to care.
so she puts on a happy face
like pretty flowers to put in an empty vase
she closes her eyes
as a tear roles down her cheek
and her frown hides away in a dark place
as if its playing hide and seek
she turns away from her evil twin
and runs away from it like its a sin.
she neatly folds her sorrows away
and pretends to smile for the rest of the day
the next morning nothing will change
she will look in the mirror for a second or two
and see all the pain that she went threw
the scares and broken bones
footprints and sorrow
broken pieces and torn soul
no hope for tomorrow
most of all the truth.
but sure enough she will smile another day
yet her reflection cries and gets put away.
