Happy Thoughts

Dear Depression,

You’re this feeling in my gut. This feeling that I’ve had since I was little kid. And for the past 17 years I’ve been smiling and playing and then I grow a little and then continue to smile and play and smile and play and grow but you’re always there no matter what. I’d take you and I’d give you to my friends thinking they’ll take care of you but you beat them down without a scratch on you. I know! Here’s a thousand dollars go buy yourself some nice things. You returned with a thousand long sleeved black t shirts. I asked why and you said,” This just screamed help.” Depression, I’m eighteen now. I’ll be heading off to college soon and trying to start my future. Why are you still here? You said because I need you to live and you need me to live. A year later and I’m just now realizing what you meant when you said those words to me. Thank you Depression for giving me a reason to live.
