Happy Words

One day I saw some happy words Hopping down the page. I tried to catch the smallest one To ask about his age. I caught him by his stringy tail And placed him on my palm. He looked at me delightedly Relaxed, content and calm. "How old are you?" I asked the word "How long have you been around?" He smiled and laughed and he replied: "Forever waiting to be found!" So I tucked him in my pocket To keep him close to me. Happy little smiling word. I'll take him on a spree. One day by chance he tumbled And found the very page Where all the other happy words Were pleasantly engaged. The words were hopping back and forth To compose a rhyme of glee Without my word The missing word A poem without esprit.

This poem is dedicated to my grandmother, who spent countless hours with me cultivating my creative inspirations.
