The Hard Part

She looks in the mirror, Her face tarnished and swollen. Wondering why she looks so hopeless, What has she done to be so abused, And wondering why he doesn’t love her like he used to? She fears he will leave, But all she wants is for him to stay. She puts up with him for love’s sake, But she knows she can’t keep living this way. Her small child tugs at her leg, And tears begin to fall from her eyes. She knows she must do better for her child. She holds her baby close to her heart, And does the hard part. She packs up her things, And heads for the door. Never allowing him to hurt her anymore.

Thank you!

I really liked your poem. It depicted the situation very well and the conflict that most abused people face, whether to leave or stay.
