Hard Work

Getting little sleep and being awake until four

In the backseat tilting me head side to side, back and forth

From the numbing mornings to the blazing afternoons

Arms above the head, letting the fruit fall freely

Until the weight gets harder to carry

Bucket after bucket, ticket after ticket, hour after hour

Sweat beading down, deciding to drink the water that’s left

Exhausted after a day of work as I just wanted to sleep on the floor

Repeating until the day is over.

Until the money is in order.

I knew the days were going to be hard

Relieved as I discard the weight off my shoulders

Knowing what my parents go through as I got older.
