I am trapped in this box

This box that I did not build

The labels seal me in

tightly, suffocatingly.

Don't try and be something different than

you have already been designated

Human Nature in our world

seems to rely upon the

predictability

that we will conform.

Our culture wants us

to be only so-pliable.

Otherwise, stay rigid in your "place"

and do not try to make waves.

A few do.

Some break out.

they are tauted as "wunderkind", as LUCKY

They are revered, celebrated

and then ripped apart, examined

and humiliated.

we have allowed our media-centric world to devour

the few shreds of mystery

of illusion

No longer can people be permitted

to have a flaw

without a hashtag attached to it.
