Hate
Because I hate you the way air hates fire
The wind will put out a flame
But the air only fuels a blaze
I only ever add kindling to your ire
I want to dissolve you, to put you out and away from minds eye
But you might consume me, and take away my life in flight
Take my body and use it, peruse it, see how you can abuse it
Till nothing is left of the ground that you scorched
But the body that you buried
And I hate you the way words seep into people
Because skin is soft
And language is not
You are Dorothy and I am the poppies
How the sounds slip so smoothly into the cells and nerves
Burrowing into your brain till phrases fill pages of your minds thoughts
Living like earthworms in the gritty dirt of your blood and bone
Living like it can not die because while your body decays
It can still haunt your ghost
I will still haunt your ghost
And I hate you the way earth hates water
To be given life by its very existence
But be ground away by its ambition
I barely notice my own slaughter
Earth is not broken away all at once, but instead
The current will knock at its door softly, once, twice, a hundred times
The river will chip at its bed carefully, tucking it into shape
Till the pieces break apart like sand falling in an hourglass
Time passing, bit by bit
And I hate you the way hatred rots the soul
It lives on in your eyes
The windows are blurry
I will curdle your spirit whole
As sweetness is shadowed by sorrows sighing, sorrow’s serpent
It’s venom sinks into the souls fabric and crawls through thread
Until it has molded reason into revenge, tears grow mold
It will fester and burn and it will not forgive or forget
I will not forgive or forget
