Hatred at its Finest
Her screams echo in my mind
flashbacks come in a massive flood
he strikes her once, she falls to the floor
she spats a curse, earning herself more
the sad children In the corner
my sisters and I
watch this all horrified
A torrent of questions, the biggest, Why?
why do they fight?
The answer seems so easy
beer mixed with anger
they’ll be better in the morning, right?
Brought back to reality
I assess everything around me
much older now than before
I stride to the door
there they are
a jumble of fists
mom is crying
yet she spouts another curse
one two three four
her glasses go flying, I slam the door
five. My teeth grind
six. I clear my mind.
This time, I don’t just stand by
this time, I change the pattern.
I stride in the middle of them, anger filled drunks.
staring each parent down...
Hatred...at its finest....
