HAUNTED

The silence of this house is deafening

And their absence from here is haunting

The shades of the first and second linger

among the darkened corners and they hover

over me at night while I lay sobbing

my head and heart in pain, and throbbing

my eyes bulge and pour with streams of tears

their youth still upon them, ahead of them many years

to worry about that happened with mom and dad

the thoughts of what “could have been” make me sad

I can't go back in time and change the past

but from this point forward I can make loving memories last

into eternity and let them know how much I love

them both as my sons, and how hard I strove

to make a better life for the three of us

One day it will be just the three of us

United again under the banner of the Wheeler name

never again to bare the brunt of their wayward parent's shame

She put us through by going another path

All I can do is make memories that last

a life time, and this time never to be forgotten

Never to remember the confusing times and the rotten

choices that both mom and dad made by being selfish

These little boys just want to live happily ever after, they wish

that things were back to the way things used to be

Love, security, trust, respect, and loyalty

But that's not the way things are any more

Things are different now, and I've walked through a totally different door

of opportunity and trying to make a whole new dream

It's rough starting life all over, but some people don't seem

to see how hard it is for a guy to lose everything he's got

over a bad decision that's left him in a personal hell and lot

that he took upon himself, and now I'm paying the piper

I get so frustrated thinking about all my mistakes it makes me hyper

just thinking about what I could have done differently

But hind sight is twenty-twenty, looking back is hard to see

Now I'm here alone, and the two who could make this all better

are venturing in to a whole new life without ol' dad, and I'm left to wonder

how I'm going to survive without the two who bring me the most joy
I guess some day, I hope and pray, that every day will be with my two boys.
