Have You Ever Thought About...

Have you ever thought about the ocean?
About water and its motion
Inanimate but with so much emotion
The tides keep going
Without any notion
Of human presence
Or human essence
Have you ever thought about the stars?
About how they get to live a life so far from ours
Among the planets
Next to Venus and Mars
I wonder if they look down
At our sprawling cities and speeding cars
I wonder if they like it where they are
Have you ever thought about music and sound?
About how a single song will resound
If it means something profound
And how some sounds astound
Like an orchestra or an opera
Some music is renowned
And it brings us together
Uniting centuries and nations
Bypassing language and communications
Have you ever thought about fire?
About how it’s certainly dire
But we must also admire
Its inherent desire
To constantly reach higher and higher
Fire can destroy but it can also inspire
And there’s something beautiful about the entire
Concept of flames and fire
Have you ever thought about your brain?
About its ability to perceive pleasure and pain
And its ability to contain
All of your knowledge and memories
And how it can maintain
The blood flow through every vein
Think about your ability to write and read
And how you can breathe and move and bleed
And how these things make you extraordinary indeed
Think about the sky and your senses and the Pacific:
Life must certainly be terrific.
