He Believed In Me

I’m going crazy,

trying to keep calm under all this stress

But I can’t help but think

“Man I’m such a mess”.

I’m worn down and run out of all the love I’ve got to give

And the problem is,

it’s myself I’ve got to forgive.

But I can’t.

And I’m sinking.

I need a reminder to breathe.

Just then he touches my hand,

catches my eye

and I realize

that he’s my reason to believe.

Not just in myself

but in everything else.

Like romance, dance,

and a second chance

for each of us,

not just the clean

but the down-right and dirty

and those fuming with green.

His glance seems to say

“I know that it’s rough,

I’ve been there.

I’ve done that.

But I can tell that you’re tough.”

And for a moment, I believed him

Or at least I thought I did

But I guess that’s the thing about boys with pretty eyes

who you never knew would leave you

come spring.
