He Hit Me

Because I love you,

he traces my face with gentle fingers

Because I love you,

his lips slowly meet mine

Because I love you,

we stay in bed all day

Because he loves me,

I cover the bruises blossoming on my cheek

Because he loves me,

I ignore the fat lips

Because he loves me,

I send my friends to voicemail

Because I love myself,

I leave.
