He Swallowed Death

I wonder what he was thinking

As pill by pill he swallowed death

Was he thinking "noone loves me"

As he took that final breath

I wonder what she was thinking

As she found her son in that state

Was she thinking "Oh it's all my fault

Please don't let me be too late"

I wonder what they were thinking

The paramedics as they pounded on his heart

Were they thinking "this kid's lucky"

As they heard the beating start

I wonder what he's thinking

As he lies in that hospital bed

Is he thinking "thank God I'm still alive

Or when can I try again"
