"He Was Only a Twinkle..."
Dear The-One-That-Said-I'm-Too-Young,
He was only a twinkle in the night sky
I never needed to wish when he flew by
People tried to warn me, but I fought for love
For isn’t it love that makes a life shine above
I fell for him hard and it seemed he did too
When worse came to worse it just went askew
Out of my life; out of my heart
When it came down to it, I was torn apart
But through trial and tribulation
And through constant consternation
I arose a new person, for he helped me see
That a relationship doesn’t define me
In fact, I am the only one who can define
All that is and all that is not mine
And when people say I don’t know how
To grow, learn, feel, and love
I say, “I know how to from above”
It would be that I learned not to fear
What others might and might not say
I will not let these emotions get in my way
For I am changed and I am reborn
Through life I’ve learned to sprint through the thorns
