He Would Never Tell

She graced the room with her smile,

he made everyone silent with his stone gaze.

She tried to find his smile,

he just rolled his eyes, brushed her away

like a fruit fly buzzing around the dinner table.

She sat next to him,

her head leaning on his shoulder.

He acted as if she wasn't the lone light in his dreary life.

She grew tired of his hard exterior that couldn’t break

he wished she knew why he had built it up.

He was afraid to tell her.

Afraid of getting hurt .

Afraid of getting abandoned.

She wished he knew what he meant to her.

He already knew, but he would never tell.
