The love you gave me was too much to stomach
almost like swallowing whole buckets of thumbtacks
Your love becoming like a broken well
empty wishes that drifted away
clinging to the slightest bit of hope that still existed
watching my ambition flail in a burning forest of circumstance
turning to the the enticing voice of temporary escape
allowing myself to get lost in the sweet symphony of denial

while those sweet sweet kisses lingered on my lips
like a stuttering apology
excuses pasted to the smooth underside of your convincing tongue
The oak like walls of my heart still remember your hurricane
like white tattoos traced on my skin
visible enough for only me to know you were here
but delicate enough for me to wonder if you existed
